Artists Patrick Dionne and Miki Gingras were commissioned to create this photomontage for the 250th anniversary of Carleton-sur-Mer, located in the Gaspésie region of Quebec.
The artists asked for the citizens of the town to contribute photos and oral history anecdotes, making this a truly community-based project. Completing the historical circle, the mural takes its title from the original Mi'gmaq name for the area.
The mural is 10 metres long and 2 metres high and installed in the centre of town. The blue and sepia tones respectively reference the nearby sea and the archival quality of the piece.
